Bathroom/Laundry Remodel 2006

NEW BATHROOM AND LAUNDRY REMODEL

HERE'S THE PLAN:

LAUNDRY ROOM-remove all cabinets, water heater, old washer and laundry sink.

Have new cabinets built and add new stackable washer and dryer.
Replace old water heater with tankless one mounted in garage.
Replace back door and replace kitchen door with new archway.

NEW POWDER ROOM-create one where the old pantry cabinets were.

Right, washer and laundry sink as seen from Kitchen.

LAUNDRY DEMOLITION-DAY 1

WITH "TEMPORARY" WATER HEATER

JULY 10, 2006-
Today's notes:

Realized that the Kohler pedestal sink I wanted will be an impossible fit in the tiny powder room. Bummed but moving on to wall mounted or corner sink. Very happy with Day 1-lots completed and contractor did a great clean up job (as well as re-installing hot water heater so we don't have to go without).

Pocket door framing is in. Yes, the water heater will be coming out; that's where the toilet goes!
New side door-nice, includes window with blinds in between the glass panes.
Electrical work is now done in bathroom and plumbing in for new washer/dryer.

New questions to ponder...
Should we have tile (ceramic/stone/slate) in the laundry room and powder room? It was going to be the same wood as the Kitchen. I'm concerned about high traffic (via exterior side door) and possible water damage to wood if the washer or toilet were to leak.

RECONSTRUCTION WEEK 2

Laundry Room with drywall in place. That is one teeny, tiny bathroom!

Week 3&4 Update:
Aug 2nd-
All the drywall is done and the new archway into the laundry room looks great and matches perfectly the original ones in the Living Room (and the one we had put in the shower of the other bathroom).

I painted the bathroom one of the colors I had been considering for the beadboard backsplash (Behr "Mountain Haze").

Decided on a different tile for the bathroom and saved about $4 per square foot over previous choice. It looks like this:

I found and ordered a very tiny pedestal sink for the bathroom.
The faucet for the bathroom pedestal sink will be American Standard "Town Square".

Week 5 Update:
August 8th-
The rest of the cabinets have been installed in the last couple of days and I've done more painting.

Archway into the laundry room:

August 17th-
Below, the fixtures are in the powder room. The paint color is most accurate in the sink photo (Behr Mountain Haze).

The sink was ordered online and we found the Kohler Memoirs toilet on Craig's List (brand new!) for only $50! A contractor had it left over from a job and it sells at Home Depot for $250. Plus it matches the one in the other bathroom!

Other notes:

We've ordered our washer and dryer and they will be delivered on Saturday! I've coveted these LGs for over a year and I'm so excited to finally get them! They will be stacked and placed opposite the arch in the laundry room.

Week 7
August 20-
Note the new washer and dryer in the laundry room.

May 18, 2007-One last update....

The New Bathroom

There are four framed black and white photos I took during our travels and a small framed mirror which I painted black.

Other fixtures are all chrome to match fixtures in the rest of the house.

 The New Laundry Room

The cabinets were custom built by the same cabinet maker who did the ones in our Kitchen. We did the painting ourselves and they are the same color as the top cabinets in the Kitchen (very pale grey-green).

Table we built for Laundry Room (below)

A.K.A "The Most Expensive Laundry Room Table in the World"

Mom and I built the table ourselves and had the granite installer use a piece of leftover granite from the kitchen for the top (thus, making it the most "expensive laundry table" in the world).

Cat boxes live underneath.
