How to Pack Tech and Toiletries

Updated for 2021

As I updated this for the first time in several years, I realized that much has changed and I’ve been able to lighten my load quite a bit due to changes in technology.

I now carry a Microsoft Surface instead of iPad, Kindle, and laptop.

My camera gear has changed and lightened. I no longer carry a big Nikon DSLR with multiple lenses. Instead, I have a Sony Alpha a6000 Mirrorless Digital Camera which is about half the size and weight of my old Nikon. I’m very happy with it. In 2018, I got the Sony 18-135 zoom lens to go with my Sony camera and for me, it’s the perfect travel lens, both compact and powerful.

Noise Canceling Headphones– I have these and really like them. They are cordless and Bluetooth but come with a cable to use on airplanes.
Galaxy Gear Fit2 Watch
Plug adaptors– I’m ashamed to admit I own about a dozen of these (many duplicates) for all over the world.
Multi USB Charger– I like this because it has a long cord which makes it easier to use in hotel rooms with limited outlets.
Extra USB charging cables
Battery power stick

Toiletries

I really like a hanging bag for toiletries (I bought this one and love it), but I also sometimes bring several small bags instead (one for makeup, one for hygiene, one for first aid and medicines, etc).

One of the nice things about traveling with someone is that you can share some toiletries and first aid items.

Cabeau Travel Pillow- I love this because it compresses into its own bag, yet is fully supportive when opened. It also has straps that can connect to the headrest.
