Golden Rules of Travel With Friends

Golden Rules

1. Always eat lunch before it gets too late.

Many restaurants are not open between lunch and dinner. (Hint: Make sure Kristina gets food before 2PM. or she gets cranky).

2. Speak up.

If you are unhappy about something, want to do something else, don’t want to go somewhere, it’s your fault if you don’t communicate. The rest of us aren’t mind readers.

3. Don’t be a martyr.

No one will respect you for it and you will be miserable. This goes hand in hand with rule #2.

4. Be brave when it comes to food. Taste everything.

5. Roll with it.

Plans can go awry. Strikes happen. Museums close randomly. Have a back up plan.

I am planning a “sisters” reunion with 3 of my old childhood girlfriends. So this topic was perfect for me. I have not spent time with them in a LONG while so I guess I will need to keep this advice in mind. Kristina, I need food every 3-4 hours! But little bites. 🙂

Thanks Arlene. I highly recommend multiple meetings and/or emails before your trip. Make sure everyone has reasonable expectations and that everyone is clear on how money issues will be handled. In fact, the more I think of it, the more I think I should flesh out this list a little.

Thank you for your Forum Hotel comments. Helps in terms of being prepared. I am travelling with two friends there later this year. Could I recommend that the budget should come first when travelling with friends. It has caused endless problems not knowing this till after many hours of research for bookings had been undertaken. As you say, we are not mind readers. Also, please recommend having some time out from each other to avoid tensions being created.
